Chapter 6

*3rd pov*
After the young Ranger had passed out, Nema brought inside her house (with some help from Ukie) and placed (Y/n) on the couch.  Minutes quickly passed by and the Ranger still showed no signs of waking up.  Minutes then became an hour which then became two, and finally the Ranger began showing signs that she was still among the living.

“......Ugh…...What happened?” (Y/n) questioned as she regained consciousness and began to sit up, groaning in the process.

“(Y/n)!  You're finally awake!” Nema cried out upon seeing the now conscious girl.  “I was so worried that you wouldn’t wake up.”

“Pichu!” Ukie also joyfully cried out, standing beside Nema.

“Wha?” (Y/n) questioned.

“You passed out right after you put out the giant fire and have been out for at least a few hours.” Nema explained.

“Eh!?!?  I was out for a few hours!?!?” (Y/n) exclaimed.

“Yeah.” Nema simply said then held out a glass of water and a plate with a sandwich on it to the Ranger.  “Here, I made you something to eat since you looked like you haven’t eaten for a while.”

“Oh.  Thanks.” (Y/n) said as she gratefully took both items.

“By the way…….Would another three requests be okay?” Nema asked.

“Um…….I guess?” (Y/n) unsurely said as she began eating.

“This is my first one.  I’d like you to carry the Z.Z. Flyer into my room.♪” Nema stated.

“Sure…..Is it still outside where I left it?” (Y/n) asked.

“It's actually just outside my house.  I brought it as far as my front door before running out of energy.  This was after you passed out, though.” Nema explained.

“Oh, okay.  Then this shouldn’t be difficult nor take too long either.” (Y/n) stated as she finished her meal and began getting up.

“The fire really made a mess of my room, so just put the Z.Z. Flyer there.” Nema directed as (Y/n) dragged the salvaged machine into the house.  “Thank you very much!  I’ll investigate this Z.Z Flyer, and if I find anything, I’ll tell you right away!”

“Sure thing.” (Y/n) said once she finished.

“That room is my research lab.  I might not look like it, but I’m a scientist.” Nema stated as she faced the Ranger.  “I’m really glad you were with me.  There’s no way I could have put out a fire like that by myself.”

“It's no problem.  All part of the job.” (Y/n) stated.

“Well, I’ll introduce myself once again.  I told you before, but my name is Nema.  I’ currently developing a new weapon to take out bad guys.  Most of my work got burned up in that fire, but it's okay.  I can work on it again.” Nema explained.

*(Y/n)’s pov*
I was about to say something when my Styler began bugging out.

“Bibi…….zzzzzz…..Voice…...zzzzz…..” It buzzed out.

“I’ve been curious about this for a while.  Your Styler is different than Papa’s.  It talks.” Nema said, her eyes fixated on said item.

Oh it talks alright.  It's getting it to shut up that’s the problem.’ I sarcastically thought.

“It doesn’t seem to be working very well, though.” Nema said.  Then she came closer and took my wrist that had my Styler on it.  “I’ll have a look at the insides, so let me borrow it for a second!  This is the second of my three requests.”

I simply gave her a hesitant look.

“.......What?  Don’t look so worried.  It’s me, Nema!  It’ll be fine!” She reassured.  Eventually I gave in and gave her my Styler.  “Wow!  This is amazing!  I’ve never seen such circuitry like this!  Ooh, it looks like seawater got in it through this gap.  With a little blast of air and a bit of grease……And finally in this area here…..Okay!  Its fixed♪.  Try setting it on your arm.”

I did as she said and my Styler began beeping, sounding as if it was brand new.

“Beep beep beep!  Confirmed rebooting of the Styler Modification module.”

“Well that’s new.” I commented.  I then began messing with it.

“Styler Modification looks pretty helpful!” Nema commented.

“It seems that I can modify certain extensions to fit my needs for whatever mission I’m on.  Very handy.” I stated as I continued to mess with it.

“Still, Papa’s pretty late.” Nema quietly commented.  “We might as well go meet him.”

“He’s probably somewhere around the Wireless Tower on Mt. Latolato.” Nema said.  “I’ll be your guide to Mt.  Latolato.  Come along, Ukie!”

“Pichu!” Ukie cheerfully cried out.

“Huh?” I questioned.  “Mt. whatta whatta?”

“Going North through the forest to the west of here will take us to the trail that climbs Mt. Latolato.  The Wireless Tower is at the peak of the mountain.” Nema explained

Then we began our journey towards the Wireless Tower.  It honestly didn’t take us that long to reach the trail Nema had talked about.

“This is the start of the trail that climbs Mt. Latolato.” Nema said, as she pointed out said path once we got closer.

“Alright then, let’s keep going.” I said as I continued onward.

After walking uphill for a little bit we were abruptly stopped by Pincher who had an Ivysaur beside him.

“Hold on there!” He commanded.  “From here on, no children are allowed to enter.”

“What are you talking about?  Mt. Latolato’s a safe place.” Nema questioned.

Then the Ivysaur slowly approached us, aggressively growling as it did so, as the Pincher spoke.

“It was, up until a few days ago.” He smugly stated.  “Now, all sorts of shady characters are running around there.  Me, for example!”

The he had the Ivysaur charge and attack us.  I quickly picked up Ukie and tossed him to Nema, who had caught in her arms,  before pushing them both to one side while I jumped to the other.  We just barely managed to dodge its razor leaf attack.

“Capture on!” I shouted as I aimed my Styler as best as I could while dodging all of the pokemon’s attacks.  Luckily, I managed to completely free the Ivysaur from the Pincher with all this jumping around I was doing.  “Capture complete.”

“Who’d have thought a couple of kids could be so tough!?” He exclaimed as he ran away in a panic.

Then Nema approached me with Ukie still in her arms.
“I’m starting to get worried about Papa…..” She said with a worried expression on her face.

“Don’t worry.  I’m sure your Papa’s fine, he’s a Ranger after all.” I reassured as best as I could.  She only nodded in response.  Then we continued onwards to the Wireless Tower.

As we came to a bridge, Nema went towards the railing and began staring wistfully at the ocean.
“The view from here is breathtaking, isn’t it?” She said as she continued to stare out.  “Oblivia’s sea and sky.  I love them both.”

I then began to stare out too, and saw what she was talking about.
Huh….It is pretty amazing….’ I offhandedly thought.

Then Nema turned towards the bridge.
“It looks like someone else is coming.” She stated.  This caught my attention as I quickly turned in the direction she was looking and began moving myself in front of her and Ukie so that I could easily protect them.  Just as I did so, another Pincher approached us but with a Wobbuffet this time.

“You’ll never get past this bridge.” The Pincher stated.  Then his pokemon moved closer to us, like the Ivysaur from before.

“Save comments like that for after the battle.” Nema sassily responded.  “Bring it on!”

Then the Wobbuffet attacked us, but I easily subdued it.

“I’ll let you cross the bridge this once.  But after you cross, go home, okay?” The Pincher said as the pokemon scurried away.  Then he himself ran away.

“I wonder what they’re planning to do on Mt. Latolato.” Nema questioned.

I didn’t even respond as quickly continued onward.  Nema and Ukie quickly followed behind.  When we finally reached the top, I saw a fellow Ranger facing at least three Pinchers.

“You there!” The Ranger called.  “What are you trying to do to the Wireless Tower?”

“No one here is dense enough to answer that just because they’re asked!” One of the Pinchers said.

“If you don’t want to get hurt, I recommend looking the other way.” Another Pincher stated.

Just as they were about to summon pokemon and attack the Ranger, I quickly ran to his side and took a fighting stance.  Nema and Ukie quickly caught up and stood behind me.

“Papa!” Nema called out.

“The Pokemon Ranger’s backup has arrived.” The third Pincher stated, upon seeing me.  “We’ll just have to take them out all at once, then!”

Then they summoned their pokemon and attack.  And I, being the stupid yet courageous person I am, jumped between my fellow Ranger and the attacking pokemon and fired my Styler.  It was difficult but I managed to subdue all three at once.  When the three pokemon scurried away, the three Pinchers began to panicking.

“Everything was going just fine until these intruders showed up!” The first Pincher exclaimed.

“Papa!” Nema called.  “We have pretty great timing, huh?”

“Nema!” The Ranger exclaimed.  “I’ve told you time and time again not to be so reckless!”

“But I……I just thought that I would guide the Ranger who wanted to meet you here……” Nema quietly explained.

“Please sir, it's not her fault.” I chimed in.  “I didn’t know the geography of this island so I didn’t know where to go to look for you.”

“I-I see……” Nema’s dad said.  “I’m sorry I yelled.  For now, why don’t you both come inside and talk?  If we stay here, they might come back again.”
Then he led the three of us into a nearby shack of sorts.

“I’d like to introduce (Y/n)!  A Pokemon Ranger just like you, who helped me with two of my three requests.” Nema cheerfully stated.  “Oh…..There’s still one left one!  Anyway, I got a lot of help.”

“Nema!” Nema’s dad called.  “Were your three requests really just three selfish demands?”

“They weren’t selfish!  Lightning hit our house, and it was on fire!  (Y/n) put it out!” Nema explained, trying to defend herself.

“Our house was on fire?” Nema’s dad questioned.  “That happened while I was out!?  Are the both of you okay?”

“(Y/n), that hothead is my Papa!♪” Nema cheerfully said, while also ignoring her dad.

“Hothead?” Nema’s dad questioned, then he turned to me.  “Anyway, I’m Rand, the Area Ranger for the Oblivia region.  Thank you very much for putting out the fire.  If you hadn’t been there……”

Then Nema interrupted by gesturing to a woman that was standing beside her.  “This pretty lady is my mom!♪  She might not look like it, but she’s an archeologist.  Oblivia is full of ruins, so my mom is very busy.”

“I’m Leanne.  Nice to meet you.” The woman, Leanne, kindly stated.  “As Nema said, this Oblivia region has many fascinating ruins.  I’m researching the relationship between the legends of Oblivia and the actual ruins.  Put simply, I’m researching whether these legends are simply fabrications of the ancients or something else entirely.  Also    ”

“Mom!  That’s too much info!  Keep your introductions to minimum.” Nema exclaimed, interrupting her mom.

“I-I guess that’s so.” Leanne sheepishly said.

“By the way, the Ranger Union told me before that they were sending three Rangers here, but…..What happened to the other two?” Rand asked.  “Would you please tell me what the situation is?”

“Well…….To put it simply, we were chasing a couple of Pinchers and ended up getting ambushed by their leader.  The result was I was separated from my comrades and they taken prisoner and are currently being held somewhere.” I explained, feeling a little guilty.
I shouldn't acted so recklessly…..I could’ve saved them!’ I angrily berated myself.

“So, that’s what happened…..” Rand quietly muttered.  “You must be very worried about your partners.  But then again, your partners are well-trained Pokemon Rangers.  So, I think they will be fine.  But Rasp Cavern’s Monument and the Wireless Tower are worrisome.  What the Pokemon Pinchers planning?”

I just stood there looking at him in confusion.  He quickly noticed then began to speak again.
“I think you may have already noticed, but our Wireless Tower, which is next to this shack, has been taken over by the Pokemon Pinchers.” Rand explained.  “As a result, we haven’t been able to communicate with the Ranger Union for several days.  That’s why, (Y/n), I want your help taking the Wireless back from the Pinchers.”

“What can I do to help?” I asked.  Before Rand could reply, someone came in and appeared to be emanating excess electricity.

“Burkhart?” Rand questioned.  “Did you let a bug in?”

“Not that I saw….” The newcomer, Burkhart, nonchalantly stated.  “Zzt zzt zzt zzt…..I just snuck…...Zzt…..Into the Wireless Tower.  There was electricity running everywhere.  Then I got shocked, and it seems I’m still carrying a charge.”
He then took noticed of my presence and stared at me in slight confusion.
“Zzt?  The backup Rangers arrived?” He questioned, then his face lit up, clearly showing that he had an idea.  “Buzzzzt…..Oh, I just thought of something.  Would you like me to charge your Styler with my excess electricity?”

Then he began approaching with an outstretched hand.  I immediately began backing up.
“N-No thanks!  I think my Styler’s good on energy.” I nervously stated as I continued to back up.  He just ignored me and continued towards me.

“ S-Stop it!  Don’t be so rash, Burkhart!” Rand exclaimed just as Ukie got in front of me and began growling at Burkhart.

“Pichu!  Pichu!” Ukie angrily shouted.

“Improper charging is a major warranty violation.” My Styler stated.

“Warranty violation?  It's not a household appliance!” Burkhart questioned.  “Well, I’ll let you be, just this once.  I still thought it was a good idea, though.”

“I don’t know what those Pinchers are doing, but there are unshielded wires all over the Wireless Tower.” Rand stated.  “Be very careful not to get shocked like Burkhart did.”

“I’m willing to go through anything at this point as long as it helps take down the Pinchers.” I stated with fierce determination.

Rand nodded in understanding then he and I did our Ranger poses, signifying that we had a new mission to complete.  After that he and I immediately went outside to enter the Wireless tower.  When we reached the first floor, we were approached by a Gligar, who appeared to be quite agitated.

“Since the Pinchers are here, the pokemon are agitated.” Rand explained.  “So performing captures might be difficult.”

“I can understand why.” I stated.  Then the agitated pokemon attacked.  Before I could do anything, Rand quickly stood between me and the Gligar and then performed a capture with such ease.  I just stood there in awe.

“Let’s get going.  There are no guardrails along the paths and floors of the Wireless Tower.” Rand coolly stated.  “Be careful not to fall off.”

“R-Right.” I stuttered.

*3rd pov*
While the two Rangers, plus the little pichu, made it to the other side the first level, they quickly hid behind some freights as they immediately spotted a couple of Pinchers conversing with a Pichu by their side.

“Raikou was climbing up the base.  What on earth is going on?” One of the Pinchers questioned.

“It probably just came around to our way of thinking and has come to lend a hand.” The other commented.  Then a look of sudden knowing overcame his features.
“Someone’s here!” He exclaimed.

Then the two Pinchers turned to the two Rangers.
“Oh great, now we have one more Ranger to deal with!” The first Pincher complained.  “I’ll go warn everyone above!”
Then he turned and ran upstairs.

The other, meanwhile, was glowering at (Y/n), who was glaring right back.
“That must be the brat we were warned about.” He stated, clearly thinking aloud.  “You're not going to get one step higher than this!”

Before either the Pincher and the two Rangers could fight, Ukie ran up the other Pichu.

“Pichu!?” Ukie exclaimed.  “Pichu!  Pichu!”

The Pincher just looked at the two pokemon in confusion before shouting.  “Enough with the “Pichu Pichu!” already!  It might be a Pichu, just like you, but it doesn’t matter!  Go get ‘em!”

Then the Pincher had the little Pichu attack.  This time (Y/n) took charge and launched her Styler to perform a capture.  With help from Ukie, she managed to successfully capture the Pichu.

“That was pathetic, Pichu!” The Pincher angrily shouted.  “Where was that intensity I saw when I seized you on Dolce Island?  I couldn’t feel it all!”

Then he ran away.  Meanwhile, Ukie began releasing electricity while looking the other Pichu in hope.

“Pichu Pichuu?” Ukie questioned, with giving off sparks of electricity.  The other Pichu looked back with realization and joy and immediately went over to Ukie and began to give off sparks of electricity too.
Then Ukie began strumming his little ukulele while the Pichu sort of hummed along while swaying to the beat.

“So this is one of the Pichu that you were telling me about.” Rand said.  “It must’ve been very frustrating to be controlled by that villain.  Ukie…...I’m glad you were able to meet your friend again!”

“Pichu!” Ukie cried out in joy.  Then the other Pichu ran off with Ukie happily waving goodbye to the Pichu.  “Pichu Pichu!”

“Come on.  We better keep going before all of the Pinchers find us and overwhelm us.” I stated while walking to the stairs.
